Specialization in a track and strand is one of the most critical decisions kids entering senior high school must make. The present K-12 curriculum allows kids to specialize in tracks (further subdivided into strands) that will lead and facilitate their college journeys.
One of these tracks is HUMSS, or Humanities and Social Sciences.
What is HUMSS?
Humanities and Social Sciences is a branch of the Academics track offered to senior high school students. The HUMSS Senior High School track is designed for students who aspire to enroll in college-level journalism, communication arts, liberal arts, education, and other social science-related courses. The Senior High School HUMSS track emphasizes the development of students’ reading, writing, and oral communication abilities due to the heavy emphasis on interpersonal interactions.
A prevalent misperception about the Senior High School HUMSS strand is that it is significantly easier than other tracks and strands, or that students enrolled in this strand do not need to study as diligently as those enrolled in other strands (especially those in the Academic track). Although HUMSS does not require as much Math and computation as ABM or STEM, it is by no means “less difficult.”
HUMSS is largely research-based and requires students to read, compose, and deliver several papers during senior year of high school.
